CARE II
Brief introduction:
The study of Chinese Atherosclerosis Risk Evaluation (CARE-II, NCT02017756, 2012-2015) is a cross-sectional, multicenter, observational study. The primary objective of CARE-II study is to investigate the prevalence of high-risk carotid atherosclerotic plaques in Chinese patients with carotid plaque determined by ultrasound and recent cerebrovascular symptoms using multicontrast MR vessel wall imaging. We recruited subjects from 14 imaging sites across China and performed carotid artery MR imaging with identical imaging protocol and dedicated carotid coil. The key finding of this study is that the prevalence of carotid high-risk plaque is significantly higher than >50% stenosis (28% vs. 19%, p <0.0001) in Chinese symptomatic patients.
